ابنِ عجیبہ کا نظریۂ شریعت و طریقت: ایک مطالعہ

Abstract

In Muslim scholarly tradition, there has been a debate on the relationship between Sharīʻah and Ṭarīqah. This article studies a Moroccan scholar and Sufi Ibn ʻAjībah al-Ḥasanī’s theory of Sharīʻah and Ṭarīqah. It finds that Ibn ʻAjībah considers Sharīʻah and Ṭarīqah to be inseparable. To him, Ṭarīqah is the essence of Sharīʻah. Sharīʻah and Ṭarīqah have the same relationship as soul and body. Sharīʻah is a body and Ṭarīqah is a soul. He who obtains the law but does not find the truth is a transgressor, and he who obtains the truth but does not know the law is an atheist. It is necessary to combine the two. Ibn ʻAjībah’s theory seems to correspond with Quran, Ḥadīth and Prophet’s conduct. Many Muslim scholars’ interpretations of Sharīʻah and Ṭarīqah are also in line with Ibn ʻAjībah’s under discussion theory.
