Commentators of Ḥadīth discuss syntactic issues while interpreting Prophetic traditions. The present article is an attempt to study the use of syntactic descriptions in Ḥadīth commentary named Badhl al-Majhūd by an Indian Ḥadīth expert Khalīl Ahmad Sahāranpūrī. It finds that Sahāranpūrī has given detailed explanation of Prophetic traditions in the light of ʻIlm al-Naḥw (syntax). He uses Qur’ānic verses to argue for syntactic explanations. While discussing the relevant issues he sometime says in the end: "I say" and sometime: “This is the correct one.” He also mentions the different meanings of the related words. His syntactic explanations have makes the words of the relevant traditions easier for the readers to understand.
